Meet Maureen
our iguana rescuer
PLEASE NOTE : Returning from Loudoun castle reptile centre the reptile rescue WL ceased to be run and operated from the area of longridge in january 2008, the rescue moved to west calder under the new management of a trusted volunteer due to the ongoing ill health of the Charity directors partner. The financial strain proving too much in the start of 2009 after a long 2 year struggle on no funds coming in meant all animals were rehomed free of charge to vetted homes including the rescues own collection of animals and all equipment given away to other   animal sanctuaries and volunteers in the area . Although we are no longer operating as a fully running rescue centre helping with education and reptile health we can still help you find a home for your unwanted reptile if you cannot get help elsewhere.

When selling or handing over a pet to a rescue always check the place out before you give up your animal, dont be shy to ask questions on care and experience, ask to see your pets new enclosure while in there care. It is your right to quiz employees who will be involved with your pet on there knowledge and experiences with the animal you are handing in, a title does not qualify a rescue as experts. Be wary of people fronted as rescues who are only out for free pets.   Do not hand over your pet if you have doubts or any questions you have are dodged rather than answered. At the end of the day you have NO obligation to give up your pet!

Lothian and borders police now have our number displayed on there station message board as a reptile pick up for them 24 hours a day, due to the SSPCA only doing pick ups during office hours. They personally asked for it so we must be doing something right!
On a completely different note, it was near Bathgate in West Lothian that the world's oldest known fossil reptile was found in 1989.   The eight-inch lizard-like creature lived in the swamps in central Scotland some 338 million years ago.
